THE CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD ANNOUNCEMENTS
February 19, 2012
All Parish Meeting - Today:
Our All Parish Annual Meeting with Dessert Social will be held TODAY at 7 p.m. in the parish hall. We will celebrate this past year's mission and ministry, and we will discuss goals for the coming year. The budget for 2012 will also be presented. Please plan to attend and bring a favorite dessert to share if you wish.
Mardi Gras Celebration:
The Women of the Church of The Good Shepherd will host the Shrove Tuesday Mardi Gras Jambalaya dinner. The date is Tuesday, February 21st, 2012 and the fun begins at 6 pm. The cost is $10 per person or $40 for a family of 4 or more. We need donations of food and beverages for this event. Please take time to sign up on the sign up sheet or talk to Linda P or Shelley A. This is the Main Fundraiser for the Women's Group to support the Women's Retreat held at St Andrews House each September. Plan to come, bring a friend and have a good time. Your last chance to party before Lent starts. There will be food, fun, and Mardi Gras beads for all.
Lenten Soup Supper Series:
All are invited to join in our 2012 Lenten series to be held on Tuesday evenings, February 28 - March 27, with supper served at 6:00 p.m. and the program from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
One of the themes of Lent is reconciliation, and our series this year is titled "Making Peace with Islam: A Lenten Journey." Imagine a world where Christians and Muslims-who make up a majority of the world's population-are at peace with one another.
Our speaker is Dr. Ann Holmes Redding, New Testament PhD and former Episcopal priest of 25 years, who will share insights from her experience of the convergence of Islam and Christianity in her faith and practice. We will learn more about our own faith in relation to Islam, and we will grow in the understanding of what is our "piece of the peace" so that we can be part of a community where Christians and Muslims are at peace with one another. Ann is a wonderful person and dynamic speaker, so please plan to come and invite your friends. A free will offering will be taken to help cover the cost of this special series.
We are in need of volunteers to provide soup or bread for several of the nights of the Lenten Series. Please sign up on the sign up sheet on the Bulletin Board or contact Linda P.
Episcopal Relief and Development:
As we consider Jesus' life of healing and sacrifice during this Lenten season, ER&D asks you to reflect on your faith and how you might take action in responding to a hurting world. Next Sunday, the first Sunday of Lent, has been designated as ER&D Sunday. In addition to our prayers, the loose plate offering that day will be donated to ER&D to aid and support their work as the international relief and development agency of the Episcopal Church. Checks can be made payable to Good Shepherd with ER&D marked in the memo line.
Lenten Meditation Booklets:
Provided by Episcopal Relief and Development, this year's Lenten devotional provides insights on the daily lectionary readings and how we might apply them to our lives as we face a world in need. Booklets are available on the table in the narthex entryway.
Office Hours:
The office will only be open from 9:00a.m. to noon Wednesday, February 22 through Wednesday, February 29. Regular office hours will resume on Thursday, March 1 8:30a.m. to 3:30p.m.
