In their 1994 pastoral letter entitled “The Sin of Racism,” the bishops of the Episcopal Church acknowledge the painful reality of the consequences of racism, stating “the essence of racism is prejudice coupled with power. It is rooted in the sin of pride and exclusivity which assumes ‘that I and my kind are superior to others and therefore deserve special privileges.’” This sin continues to plague our common life in the church and in our culture. The anti-racism team strives to work collaboratively with all entities of the diocese to address the sin of racism. The Dismantling Racism process is designed to help leaders and organizations who want to proactively understand and address racism, both in the organization and in the community.
