Through playing games, cooking, talking, praying and eating together we have come to know each other both as people of faith and also as everyday people. By acknowledging that no one is perfect and we all make mistakes we are open to God’s message of redemption and forgiveness. These are especially important messages for young people to hear because everyone has made mistakes in their younger days or done something they wish they hadn’t. That message to young people comes during a time where, perhaps more than ever, perfection in grades, looks, sports etc. is expected and failure to achieve those expectations is met with great disappointment and rejection.
The group has a wonderful atmosphere of “come as you are” wherever that may be. Though small in numbers, we are big in spirit. Though young in age, we are growing in wisdom and maturity. The group has become a safe place for the youth to gather and talk about what is going on in their lives. We challenge each other to take time out from our busy days to find God and seek God in places and times which we might not have thought to before. |
