Prayer and Worship
Weekly Worship: We say it a lot ... but it bears repeating. Gathering every Sunday is the main thing Christians do, and from it flow all our efforts to love the world back into wholeness. Good Shepherd members contribute on the Altar Team and Flower Team; as acolytes, lectors, intercessors, Eucharistic ministers, and ushers; and on the Tech Team, making worship available online for those who can't be in the building with us on a given Sunday. The Good Shepherd Choir: In the fifth-century, St. Augustine said, "When you sing, you pray twice." Music is an area that lends itself especially well to intergenerational formation. Our small but spirited choir leads our singing and presents choral anthems, assisted by cantors and University of Puget Sound choral scholars.
The Daily Office: Did you know that all the baptized are qualified to lead prayer? The Daily Office consists of Morning Prayer, Noonday Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Compline--different services at different times of day that you can pray alone or in groups. All of this is outlined in The Book of Common Prayer, or you can install the mobile app Venite for daily prayer.
Families that practice their faith at home--in addition to weekly church involvement--raise kids who grow into their Christian identity. We highly recommend the book Faith at Home by Wendy Claire Barrie.
